The history of Crane's Landing dates back to 1767.  At that time, William Spry & James Baker became absentee landlords of Lot 37, which included the area now know as Mount Stewart.  In 1856, Elisha Coffin leased the land from Spry and Baker for 999 years for the annual rental fee of 20 pounds.  Quite a deal!

Unfortunately, 33 years later in 1889 the land left the Coffin family when Soloman Clark purchased the farm from Elisha for $1,950.  It was about this time that the house that is now Crane's Landing was built.

In 1912, Solomon's first cousin Ira Clark and his wife Lottie purchased the property which was later sold to Franklin & Sadie Rose in 1930.

The land remained in the Rose family until 1994 when it was divided into two sections.  Dr. Wayne Sheehan purchased the existing house, three sheds, two barns & 4 ½ acres of land from Frank & Sadie's son, Lorne.  Lorne continues to own the remainder of the farmland.

In 1995, Elaine & Gary Clark purchased the property from Dr. Sheehan and established the Cottage Laine Tea Room, Craft Shop and Bed & Breakfast.  Former owners Ira & Lottie Clark were Gary’s grandparents.

In March of 2002, Gary & Elaine sold the property to Tracey Crane who changed the name to Crane’s Landing.  Gary’s mother, Lillian Clark, is the sister of Della Crane, who happens to be Tracey's grandmother.  In addition, Tracey’s mother and Crane's Landing manager, Janice is a descendant of the original owner Elisha Coffin.  After 146 years the property finally came back to the family!

Crane's Landing is a house with a long history and we hope you come for a visit to see it for yourself.
